Portugal is one of the oldest countries with established frontiers in Europe. Its foundation recalls from 1139, and its recognition as an independent country happened in 1143.
With a tradition of explorers in the fiftieth century, Portugal became a great empire with colonies worldwide. Until today, are Portuguese people scattered worldwide but with a deep desire to return to their home country. They even invented a unique word to express this feeling: "Saudade".
Eventually, some of them move back to Portugal and bring things from other continents and distant countries. It, plus the excellent furniture industry, makes the country a great place to find unusual vintage, antique and collectable items.
Born in Galway, west coast of Ireland, lived in Dublin for 40 years. Paschal visited Portugal for the first time in 1984 and immediately fell in love with the country.
Since then, he started to visit Portugal regularly. Nine years ago, he arranged to buy a house on the country's west coast. And in 2018, he settled in Portugal.
With a keen eye and an everlast passion for vintage, collectables and antiques started his treasure hunting for unusual items in Feira da Ladra (Thief's outlet in Lisbon).
With his previous knowledge of the country, he expanded the search to the countryside, to remote places where he sensed that he could find the best pieces. By now, he covered the country's south, centre, and north, where he could notice the best articles in family houses and old warehouses.
In 2019, he chose to turn his hobby into a business and started Antiquol. After selling items to hundreds of clients on Marketplaces such as Facebook, Catawiki, E-bay and Etsy, he had to cease the operations during the outbreak of Covid-19.
Now that the things were getting back on track, he resolved finally to assemble this platform to sell the hidden treasures of Portugal.
